NPI, National Provider Identifier

For Our Health Care Provider Customers who need NPI:

The deadline for the mandated National Provider Identifier number is May 23, 2007. The National Provider Identifier is required under the Administrative Simplification provision of HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act). It is required by all health care providers who submit electronic data, including electronic insurance claims. This is the urgency!

SoftDent users:
If you are running Softdent version 12.x, to send electronic claims you will need Version 12.0.2 or higher. If you are running Softdent version 11.x to send electronic claims you will need version 11.0.12 or higher. You will also have to change you existing insurance form to number 165 in the drop down list under insurance forms.

If you have not applied for your National Provider Identifier number and want to use Electronic Claims, it is strongly recommended that you apply online at the link given below. Input it into your Dental or Medical software as soon as possible so that if there are any bugs or problems with implementing the National Provider Identifier in your particular software, they can be worked out before the deadline.
